Glow tea formula’s actions are to enhance blood circulation, to remove blood stasis causing symptoms such as painful periods or pain with ovulation, and remove masses in the abdomen such as ovarian cysts; it is also indicated for amenorrhea due to blood stasis, menses with bellyache, or persistent lochia after delivery.

In a 2014 systematic review of randomized clinical trials Guizhi Fuling wan was shown to be effective at reducing the volume of uterine fibroids and in soothing painful periods associated with fibroid growth.

Most commonly in the modern era Guizhi Fuling wan is used for treating women with PCOS and it has been extensively studied for this purpose. In a 2020 animal study, Guizhi Fuling wan was studied for its effects on the intestinal microbiome and inflammatory markers of rats with PCOS and insulin resistance; the herbal formula was remarkably effective at reducing inflammation and promoting higher levels of healthy intestinal flora.
